Request for donations

Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine established the Center for the Promotion of Gender Equality in 2010, when the “Miyako Model for the Flexible Support of Female Medical Researchers” was subsidized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Since that time, the center has been actively developing various projects to support female medical researchers. In addition to the creation of a nursery for sick children and the introduction of a flexible work schedule and research support staff system, including the Future Step Researcher designation, we have planned a number of educational projects to create an environment in which female researchers can pursue their research in an ongoing fashion, and we will continue these projects even after the grant ends.

With more and more women enrolling in our university to become doctors and nurses, we hope to further enhance and establish these support programs in order to train the next generation of medical professionals poised to work on the front lines of medicine. However, it is extremely difficult for the university to bear all the expenses related to these support programs, and we must ask for support from parties within and outside the university.

Given these circumstances, we sincerely hope that not only our faculty and staff, but also alumni, parents of current students, university-affiliated organizations, and business people will appreciate the goals and activities of our center and lend their support.

Scope of our activities

Create an environment in which medical professionals and researchers, regardless of gender, can engage in medical research in a flexible and relaxed manner, accumulate meaningful achievements, and advance their careers.

Specifically,

Raise awareness of reforms to the way medical professionals work among the university and in society at large.
Foster the younger generation by providing childcare support for sick children, etc.
Exchange information among medical professionals and researchers within and without the university.
Provide assistance to promote research under time constraints.
Apply various work systems, such as shorter working hours.
Introduce role models. Etc.

Method of payment

After receiving your application form, we will send you a separate money transfer form to make the transfer. (If you use the form and make the transfer over the counter at Kyoto Bank, there is no fee. You can also remit payment via ATMs or online banking.)

◆ Tax exemption measures for donations
This donation is eligible for tax benefits under the Income Tax Act and the Corporation Tax Act.

Enterprise donors:
The entire amount can be treated as a deductible expense under the Corporation Tax Act.

Individual donors:
Under the Income Tax Act, charitable amounts can be deducted from gross income, reducing the amount subject to tax.
Deductions are also available from individual resident taxes (for residents of Kyoto Prefecture and Kyoto City).

Acknowledgement of donations and reports

Thank you for your continued support of the Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine Miyako Work-Life Balance Support Center.
In June 2014, we began accepting donations for the Center for the Promotion of Gender Equality, and as of March 31, 2023, we have received 10,400,000 JPY in donations from a total of 197 individuals, 7 medical school departments, and 52 corporations. Our deepest thanks to all of our generous supporters.
Through these donations, we have built a lactation room, renovated the women’s rest room, introduced and expanded the monitoring system for sick children in the nursery, as well as held lectures and published newsletters, among other PR and educational efforts. Some new initiatives for young people are the WLB Support Start Grant, the WLB Young Researcher Award, and the WLB Miyako Award.

The university established the Gender Equality Promotion Center as part of MEXT’s subsidies for the “Miyako Model for the Flexible Support of Female Medical Researchers,” adopted in 2010. Since that time, the center has developed various projects, such as operating a nursery for sick children and introducing positions subject to shorter working hours.
In 2019, the name was changed to Miyako Work-Life Balance Support Center (Miyako WLB Support Center) as part of our steps toward creating an environment where a wider range of medical professionals and researchers can enjoy their work and personal time and lead fulfilling lives regardless of their gender.
Going forward, we will continue to enhance our support systems for those involved in child-rearing and nursing care, as well as aim for efficiency reforms to the way faculty and staff of the university engage in work.
