Q2 How do I get into a preschool?
Select a day-care center you would like to enter by asking acquaintances or visiting the day-care center, and apply for admission through the ward office.
You should also contact the daycare directly to confirm the schedule of information sessions and whether it is possible to enroll your child in the daycare.
Q3 Is it possible to enter the school in the middle of the school year?
As a rule, new enrollment is in April, and simultaneous interviews at licensed daycare centers are generally held in January. For this reason, many people take childcare leave until March, making it quite difficult to enroll a child in the middle of the school year.
However, there are cases where you do not want to take a long childcare leave if you are aiming to advance your career. If there are vacancies, it may be possible to enroll a child in the middle of the school year. The earlier you apply, the better. Please ask the day-care center directly first.
Q4 Is there any way to have my child looked after outside of daycare?
Kyoto City has a “small-scale childcare business” that began in fiscal year 2014. In addition, “temporary childcare” services are also provided.
