About the Research Support Staff Employment Program

Public recruitment of research support staff at Kyoto Prefectural Medical University for the FY2023

  1. Purpose
     This project supports the hiring of research assistants to assist researchers in medical research so that they can balance their research activities with childcare, childbirth, nursing care, hospital visits, etc., and promote the realization of a work-life balance.
  2. Scope of researchers eligible to apply
    Female physicians affiliated with Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine (in principle, those who have completed or are on track to complete their degrees) who are deemed necessary to hire a research assistant due to childcare, childbirth, nursing care, hospital visits, etc. (including those on leave due to these reasons).
  3. Term of Use
    From June 1, 2023 to February 29, 2024
    The hours shall be between 16 and 64 hours per month (maximum of 192 hours per year).
     For example: Once a week 8 hours per session (32 hours per month) 
            Twice a week 4 hours per session (32 hours per month), etc.
  4. Recruiters
    Approximately 5 people (within budget: the number of openings may vary depending on when support staff are hired and the number of hours they are hired).
  5. How to apply
    Those who need to hire a research assistant shall, upon obtaining the approval of the head of their department, submit an original (not a photocopy) of the application form for hiring a research assistant (Form 1), the applicant’s CV, research history, and achievements (Appendix 1), and the CV of the research assistant candidate (Appendix 2) to the Director of the Miyako Center for WLB Support, after obtaining sufficient coordination with the faculty members of the laboratory, etc. to which the applicant belongs and having the form approved by the head of the department.

  6. Selection process
    The WLB Support Center Miyako Management Committee shall conduct the first screening, and the Research Committee shall make the selection after the second screening.
    The Director of the Research Department shall notify the Director of the WLB Support Center Miyako of the selection results by the Research Committee.
  7. Application Deadline Order: April 14, 2023 (Noon) <Deadline for Submission of Application>
    ※ Those who wish to apply must contact us by Tuesday, April 11.
  8. Selection Decision and Notification
    After May 22, 2023 (tentative), the Director of the WLB Support Center Miyako will notify the applicant and the head of the organization of the selection results.
  9. Affiliation and management of research assistants
    The research assistant will be assigned to the affiliation of the researcher who employs said research assistant. The head of the department shall manage the work contents and working conditions of the research assistant.
  10. Selection Criteria for Employment of Research Assistants
    The employment of research assistants meets one of the following criteria and is evaluated on a five-point scale.
    (1) Research support (difficulty, urgency, importance, etc.) that is recognized as truly necessary by the applying researcher
    (2) The research is expected to be continued and carried out by the applicant.
    (3) The research motivation of the applicant researcher is clear.
    (4) The work to be performed by the research support staff is specific and expected to be effective.
  11. Research presentation     
    Researchers who have used the Research Support Staff Employment Program shall present their research at the the Four-University Collaborative Research Forum and at the meeting for research results presentasion of the Miyako, WLB Promotion Center.
  12. Report of results
    Researchers who have used the Research Support Staff Employment Projgram shall submit a report on the effectiveness of the assignment of research support staff and research results to the Director of the Miyako, WLB Promotion Center (Appendix Form 2).

  14. Matters that require attention
    (1)Personal information such as employment application forms will be used as valuable information during the selection process of the project and for consideration of reviews, etc., and will not be used for any other purpose.
    (2)As for the candidates for research assistants, consideration should be given to selecting candidates from the four partner universities.  
    If a candidate for a research assistant cannot be secured by the deadline for submitting an application for employment of a research assistant, please contact the WLB Support Center Miyako (hereinafter referred to as “the Center”) for consultation.
    (3)Any changes to the employment application or other documents must be reported to the Center as soon as possible.
    (4)Researchers who use the Research Support Staff Employment Program should fully explain to the Research Support Staff the nature of their work, working hours, etc.
    (5)If any problem arises in the research support staff employment project, it should be promptly reported to the Director of the Center.

Procedures for Hiring Research Assistants

(1)A researcher who wishes to employ a research support staff should fill in the reason for the application, the expected effects of the assignment, and the research implementation plan, etc., obtain approval from the head of his/her department, and submit an application form for employment of a research support staff (Form 1) with the seal of the head of the department and the applicant’s CV, research history and achievements (Appendix 1) and CV of the potential support staff (Appendix 2) to the Center.

(2)The project recipients will be screened by the Steering Committee and selected by the Research Committee.

(3)The applicant researcher himself/herself will secure candidates for research assistants.
Candidates for research assistants will also be considered for selection from the four partner universities.
If a candidate for a research assistant cannot be secured by the time the application is submitted, the researcher may consult with the Center. The researcher himself/herself will confirm the academic background, skills, and other requirements of the research assistant with the General Affairs Division and the Center.

(4)The selected project subject will obtain permission from his/her department head for appointment as a research assistant.

(5)Submit the necessary documents for hiring a research assistant to the General Affairs Division through the Center and complete the hiring procedures.

(6)The research assistants will be assigned to the department to which the researcher employing the said research assistants belongs.
Each department (laboratory) manages the work contents and working conditions of the research assistant, fills in the workbook, submits a certificate of working conditions to the General Affairs Division, and pays the assistant’s remuneration.

(7)Once a month, report to the center on the status of your work.

(8)The researcher who used the Research Support Staff Employment Program shall submit an employment report (Form 2) to the Center Director on the effectiveness of the assignment and research results promptly after the completion of the program.
